Macro Links – Macro

I put some valuable links on the blogroll (left sidebar) under the ECO100 category. These are important for getting current and historical macroeconomic numbers, and also as a resource for discovering some of the methods used to acquire the data, which as we learned today is all important. I will add to these links as the course goes on.

  • 19?? Flashback gives some historical data for a particular decade.
  • BLS is the government’s bureau of labor statistics. Lots of info on employment.
  • CIA Factbooks carry lots of information about almost any country in the world, and are a primary source of up-to-date information.
  • OECD is the main source for economic data from its members.
  • Minneapolis Fed has a lot of information about inflation and its measurement.

Exam – Macro

The exams are graded, and they are satisfactory from my standpoint. No one will fail the course if they keep trying. There are a few folks who had trouble, and need to adjust their studying technique before the next exam. I’d advise everyone to join or form a study group and start discussing the concepts with each other, working problems, and the like. It’s a good strategy and works well for most people.

Some of you will not be satisfied with your grades. But there is plenty of time left to improve, and plenty of opportunity to earn more points. I am glad we took stock now before it is too late to make changes.

I’m posting the stem-and-leaf plot of the results below. If you are not familiar with one, it is like a histogram turned on its side, but where you can see the actual scores rather than just a dot or box in the histogram cell.

You should submit your Homework 1 for credit after the exam.
