Week 6 – Mgr Econ

We’re about a week behind, and we have to do chapter 6 this week.  I will need a volunteer team for problems from chapter 5 on Friday.  Otherwise I will appoint one on Monday at class start.

This is a good chapter that builds on what we’ve just been studying. It is about monopolies, oligopolies, and free competition, with a little game theory thrown in.

CELSOC-LA Meeting

On Wednesday Feb 7 I attended a meeting on transportation for intermodal freight in the LA area, which took place in Los Angeles. I made some notes on the four speakers, and obtained some of their presentations.

A summary of the four talks.

I also made a few contacts with folks and made inquiries about:

  • A potential economic research project on public welfare contributions from public and private funding sources for infrastructure projects like this.
  • Possible interest in coming to our job fair for potential hiring.
  • Interest in students in the business program for hiring or for internships.

Mgr Econ – Week 5

Next week we will begin by hearing the lecture by Derrick Ervin and Josh Frederiksson, on problems 4-28 and 4-30.

On Monday also, I will request a team for the next lecture on chapter 5, which will take place on Monday February 12.

ON WEDNESDAY I WILL NOT BE IN CLASS.  Use the time to study.  It is a good idea for you to be working problems from the end of the chapters we have covered. Problems for the exam will be like that.

We will continue talking about chapter 5, for the whole week, finishing it Friday.

After this, we move away from basic economics and discuss a variety of applications and techniques new to you.  So now is the time to get the economic concepts learned.
