    If social security beneftis are made more
    generous, there will be a decrease in the
    supply of workers, because more people will
    be lessing willing to work due to the extra
    income they get from social security. Is that
    a correct assumption???????

  2. Yes, there would be fewer OLD workers. might be more jobs for younger ones. Will you want to be a wal-mart greeter? ssi is more of a safety net– the level of income provided is not sufficient to live on around here, and in most larger cities. it might be adequate in some communities. (it tops out at under $30K a year). also until you are 70 you cannot take social security and work also without giving up a percentage of your ssi (i think it is about 1/3. also your ssi will be taxed like income if you earn too much. so there are various incentives for people on ssi not to work.
    however there is some evidence that older workers are more productive than young ones. they know how to work hard. so employers are showing some tendency to hire them.
