I posted this for the ITI. Increasing clock speed of an industry is a way of making it more productive. Here’s a way manufacturers can do that.

It isn’t everyone’s idea of women’s work, but there is certainly an opportunity for women as we face a truck driver shortage.  The article points out that many women have several competitive advantages in entering the field.  It’s further indication that trucking is now more about service than simply mechanics.  And as technology in the warehouse and loading dock advances, we may not see large needs for physical strength.

The article explains that attracting women may require particular characteristics of the job description, such as more chance to be at home.  These are also major concerns for male drivers, and have been talked about in the organizational management literature frequently.  We discover once again that encouraging diversity is better for everyone!
