Gate to Gate: What Happens When a Truck Picks Up a Container?

Here’s a great video of trucks at the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach.  It outlines the many steps required to drop off and pick up a container.  I especially like the Import Drayage Process Map about 40 seconds in; it reminds me of a bowl of spaghetti. PierPass Terminals Embrace Appointment Systems at Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach

PierPass announced that 10 of its member container terminals have agreed on a coordinated initiative to establish appointment systems for trucks. This is important news to reduce waits for drayage truckers.  It’s one of the major causes of delays for cargo getting where it’s going.

Soft trucking spot market largely decoupled from contract market

Apparently large carriers and shippers are increasing rates to help hire good drivers and pay more.   This article says shippers are also more willing to help with delays to turn equipment more quickly.
