This approach to rate analysis is interesting. I know from experience, having seen how hard it is to deduce correct truckload rates for a given simulation.  We spent a lot of time divining these rates for a specific need. A generic econometric approach would be useful.  I hope Chris Caplice has a public access paper on the subject.

The same issue applies to rail rates as well.  And they are even more obscure, since one cannot get info on them easily.

Eight essentials of innovation?

McKinsey is reputable and has a good track record.  Are these essentials oriented enough toward disruptive innovation?  Or are they too much in line with large company needs?  I’m constantly reminded of Clayton Christensen and the big firm need to keep appeasing their very large customers with new highly targeted minor innovations instead of disruptive changes that would require the old customers to throw away their investment.  But we may need more of the latter.

Still, it is very interesting. I was impressed at how many firms think they have a culture of innovation.  I’ve been watching SAP from within their user organization, and seeing how really slow even a very substantial corporate wide thrust at disruptive innovation fueled by high powered individuals is.

EV charging wireless cut emissions by trucks

Just attended a meeting in which EV charging was pitched as a major innovation need. Wireless charging would allow more flexibility in locating vehicles for charging, and permit a reservation system perhaps.  Here’s a Brooklyn startup that is proposing a solution.
