Europe’s circular-economy opportunity

This is a fascinating McKinsey study promoting the notion of a circular economy, one which focuses on trying to reduce the externalities in economic activity to build a more sustainable economic system.  There are many good examples. You can also download the 98 page fiull report from the post.

Adopting circular-economy principles could not only benefit Europe environmentally and socially but could also generate a net economic benefit of €1.8 trillion by 2030. A McKinsey & Company article.

Gate to Gate: What Happens When a Truck Picks Up a Container?

Here’s a great video of trucks at the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach.  It outlines the many steps required to drop off and pick up a container.  I especially like the Import Drayage Process Map about 40 seconds in; it reminds me of a bowl of spaghetti. Top 20 Jobs in the U.S. Transportation Industry – Supply Chain 24/7

This is an interesting initiative on the part of the government.  One fact I found useful is that they estimate that for every front line job in the category, 2 are created in service and 21 in operations.  This shows the leverage that the transportation sector has on economic prosperity in general.  You can also download the full report from the story.

U.S. Departments of Transportation, Education, and Labor has released a joint transportation jobs report indicating that transportation industry growth will add 417,000 skilled and semi-skilled job openings from 2012 to 2022.
